So tomorrow I'll be teaching at a teambuilding workshop.
In cooperation with www.learningevents.at, I'll introduce 28 youngsters from a finance college to the martial arts and present them with new ideas on how to improve the social climate in their class utilizing the lessons learned at the dojo.
Since this is my first teambuilding workshop, there'll be two personality coaches present, Christian and Sandra. They'll take care of 2 out of the 7 hours that the workshop will take.
As for a rough schedule, the day will be organized like this:
09:00 AM - 10:00 AM, Teambuilding Part 1
At the beginning of the workshop, the coaches will take the students through a couple of motivational games to break the ice and get to know the group.
10:00 AM - 12:00PM, Shinergy Part 1
When everyone is comfortable with being at the workshop, we'll do the first Shinergy lesson. During those 2 hours, I'll outline the basic philosophy that lies underneath the foundation of every martial art, not just Shinery. In a nutshell that means the ideal of the peaceful warrior. Since I'm hired as an instructor rather than a lecturer, I'll have the youngsters practice a couple of basic techniques. I thought about showing them how to jab, cross, roundhouse kick and kneestrike. Don't think there'll be much time for more.
Now since this is going to be a teambuilding workshop, approximately 25% of the time we spend training will be consumed by one-on-one padwork. In case you're
wondering how one-on-one training relates to the idea of a team, ponder no more. The basic idea is really simple: The class will be split into four groups of seven people each. While one student is working the pads with the instructor, all the others are watching. After each round, the team provides constructive feedback for the trainee, so he can do even better in the next round. This way, they learn to achieve more as a team by supporting their colleagues.
12:00 PM - 01:00 PM, Break
Time to eat... not much to say on that one.
01:00 PM - 02:00 PM, Teambuilding Part 2
After the break, there'll be some discussion about the meaning of the word "team" and the students thought on how they could improve their teamwork.
02:00 PM - 04:00 PM, Shinergy Part 2
During the workshops last two hours, the students will do some partner drills. Since I'm expecting them to be tired by now, no further technique training will be done at this stage. What they'll do instead is another round of one-on-one padwork, plus the coaching that goes with it.
Although I'm sure I'll be pretty wasted after that workshop, I'm really looking forward to this new experience.
You'll definately see another post on that workshop after it's finished.
So long,
take care
